What Color is Love?

Author: Joan Walsh Anglund
Illustrated by: Joan Walsh Anglund
Publishing information: (Harcourt; First edition, April 1966, Ages 9-12)
Number of Pages: 27 pages
Genre:  Philosophy

Summary of Plot:
The plot is extremely simple. The author is abstract to the reader. It tells what colors things in the world are; such as a cloud is white, the sun is yellow, an apple is red, and earth is brown. It compares that knowledge to the abstract question, “What color is love?”

My Reaction to the book:
I loved this book. It is extremely simple. It has a good message. I like reading about abstract concepts, like love. At first I didn’t know where it was going with the theme, but in the end it all came together very well.

Potential Problems:
None

Recommendations:
Children can easily handle this book. The book’s size is small in dimensions, as well as in pages. It is meant for portability. It is a well written book, with a profound message. This book demonstrates that books don’t have to have grand vocabulary or a complex theme to be good books, even simple books can have a large impact.
