The Snowmen at Night

Author: Caralyn Buehner
Illustrator: Mark Buehner
Publishing information: (Dial, September 23, 2002), Baby-Preschool)
Number of Pages: 32 pages
Genre: Fiction

Summary of Plot:
I have never wondered what snowman do at night. But this rhyming book does. One morning a young boy sees that the snowman he had built yesterday has been messed up a little during the night.
Throughout this book it has hidden shapes. For example a Santa face appears in the snow, a hidden rabbit also appears in the snow, a T-Rex is a cloud, and the moon has a snowman’s face.
It explained that at night snowmen slide into the park and they all join in for snowman fun. Their adventures include sipping ice-cold coco, having relay races, skating on ice, making snowmen angels, sledding down a hill, and having a major snowball fight.
No wonder when the boy saw the snowman it looked messed up, with its hat crooked, gloves off, etc.

My Reaction to the book:
My imagination was sparked more by this book. I liked the hidden pictures element of this story. I liked how the text all rhymed.

Potential Problems:
Snowmen stay in place, and they cannot act like humans.

Recommendations:
Snowmen lovers will love this book. I was laughing as I read this story. It has a good use of personification.
