My Dad, John McCain

Author: Meghan McCain
Illustrated by: Dan Andreasen
Publishing information: (Aladdin; First Edition, September 2, 2008, Ages 4-8)
Number of Pages: 32 pages
Genre: Nonfiction

Summary of Plot:
It is an older book, written in the election time of 2008. John McCain’s daughter gives a brief history of her dad’s life. Through this book I learned that he loved to fly planes, was a prisoner of war during the Vietnam war, and that he was held captive for five years. Other things that I already knew were mentioned as well. It ended by her recommending him to be a good choice for president. (That didn’t happen, as we now know.)

My Reaction to the book:
This was kind of a brief biography aimed for kids. Personally I feel that it was written to get votes, something kids are not able to do. So I felt it was weird that it was written for them. It is a interesting view. Through her voice, I got a glimpse of what it was like to have him as a father. It is organized well.

Potential Problems:
Politics are a nasty issue for some people.

Recommendations:
For those who are into politics or those who are interested in having their children learn about John McCain, this is a good book. I like the scrapbook type pictures that this book had. It is informative.
