Summary of Plot:

A girl is upset that her uncle is getting married. She loves to hang out, go to movies, and to play basketball with him. Through the book she cries, but everyone else is happy. She talks to her mom about her feelings. She feels better. The wedding ceremony occurs, and then later her uncle’s wife throws her wedding bouquet. That occurs after eating wedding soup and dancing. Stella, the uncle’s wife gives the girl a box of butterflies.

My Reaction to the book:

I liked the culture, which was a big part of this book. I liked how the book ended, with the girl happy about the marriage. I liked how I saw the similarities between US and Chinese culture.

None

Recommendations:

Change is sometimes hard. This book teaches about why it is good, through the eyes of a girl. It has a valuable message that children can connect to.
